Cake Balls

This is another recipe that we used to make when Kelsey lived with us. Whenever we had to prepare a dessert for an event, we made cake balls. Not only are they extremely easy, but they are amazing!! If you've been into Starbucks lately, then you've probably noticed they now sell these yummy creations for about $2.00 a piece. We can made a whole batch of them for about $5.00...cheaper if you have coupons. :)

Every time I make cake balls I use a different cake mix and frosting. This time I used a red velvet cake mix and white frosting. I like to grab whatever cake is on sale at the time. A few months ago I used a rainbow cake mix and frosting. It turned out really great.

Cake Balls

Ingredients

  • 1 package chocolate cake mix
  • 1 container prepared frosting
  • 1 (3 ounce) bar chocolate flavored confectioners coating
Pick out your favorite cake mix and frosting.
Prepare the cake according to the box directions.

Using your hands, break up the cake and place into large bowl.

Mix the frosting and crumbled cake until well blended.
Form the mixture into small balls and place onto cookie sheet. I place wax or parchment paper on the cookie sheet. It's easier to cleanup later.

I like to place the cookie sheet in the refrigerator for a few minutes, to allow the balls to harden some, which will make it easier later to dip into chocolate.
Melt your favorite milk chocolate bar or chips.

You can either melt the chocolate in a glass bowl in the microwave, or in a metal bowl over a pan of simmering water, stirring occasionally until smooth.

Dip your balls into the melted chocolate.

Place cookie sheet back in the refrigerator so that the chocolate will harden.
